A man is killed in the slums of Hanoi. Photographer William Ruso, old, fat, and broke, decides to find the killer. He gathers information from a group of ex-American GIs in a local bar run by Erv Battles and from Ly Tong, local police chief. The last thing Ruso wants is to fall in love with Bolden's grieving girlfriend. He has a murder to solve.
