An attempted rape of the heroine, Megan McAllister, is stopped by the hero, Joshua Jeffries. To oblige Elizabeth Jeffries in his blackmail plot Matthew has his daughter kidnapped by a pair of local thugs. Elizabeth Jeffries gladly tells her son of the abduction, only to watch him go in search of Megan. He hunts her and eventually brings her home where they await the birth of their second child with delight.
