Gumboot Cowboy
Mr Charles W Rainwater
The author hopes the reader is peering over his shoulder as he writes. He narrates the trials, tribulations, thrills and joys of growing up during the great depression on the plains of the Texas Panhandle. He touches on his time in Oregon. His adventures take him up the primitive AlCan Highway in 1948. While working for the Alaska Railroad he gathers information on his search for a site for the cattle ranch of his dreams. The journey includes dealings with the colorful characters of the Alaska frontier. He eventually settles in the Fox River country of Kachemak Bay near Homer, Alaska. The perils include taking his bride into the wilderness, buying a year's supply of groceries from an outlet in Seattle, and instead of a four wheel drive pickup, transportation is a dory with an outboard motor, rubber boots and the perilous tides and weather of Kachemak Bay. The story will pull the readers in, making them feel they were there.
