Being a caregiver for an elderly parent is a challenge that many individuals will have to face. When that parent suffers from mental illness, that challenge can be wrought with guilt, frustration, anger, fear, helplessness, and isolation. My struggle with those feelings compromised my ability to provide the comfort and support my mother so desperately needed during the toughest journey of her life. I share our story in the hope that it will aid others who find themselves in a similar situation. There is victory.
