When Waterloo veteran George Allgood runs out of wealthy war widows to woo, he suddenly finds himself obliged to escort a family through a fantastic world full of magic and danger, aided by his life-long best friend, the unicorn Cerberon. With over three thousand miles to travel, they quickly obtain help from a mysterious elven wizard, who is much more dangerous than any of the other hazards that threaten them.
