John longs to be loved, but his scars from the war, both inside and out, make it difficult for him to believe someone could love him. Released from the hospital in 1969, he is destined to be a drunk, but the universe has something else in mind for him. On the advice of his doctor, he heads off on a motorcycle trip. A crow caws at his every turn until a beautiful Indian girl teaches him about spirit guides. She joins him and together they ride around the country where John tries to make sense of his life. This fictional story takes a soldier from a massacre in Vietnam to the shooting at Kent State University, two moments in history that tore a nation apart. It is my salute to the men and women that fought and the many that died in Vietnam and here in America and also to their families, for that war threatened to tear apart the very fabric of a way of life and more important, the way Americans look at themselves. This book will allow you to stop and think about your role in history.
