With the exception of heavy metal, there is perhaps no form of music that polarizes opinions more than classical music in general, and operatic music in particular. Yet when one asks what type of classical music is most objectionable, the reply is often surprise that there are categories of this music genre in the first place. The fact is that even classical music fans will have their dislikes, not only of certain types of music but of composers and conductors. In other words, it's not unusual to dislike certain types of classical music while being a big fan of others types. Listening to classical music is not unlike riding a bike ? it's an acquired ability that once cultivated will yield unending enjoyment. The purpose of this book is to relate how the author traveled this road from point A (ugh) to point B (wow), and how you can too.
