Chasing the Muse: Poems by a L Lieber
A. L. Lieber
A L Lieber descends from a line of physician-poets who sandwiched writing verses between managing a medical practice and seeing patients ( Arthur Conan Doyle in the nineteenth century and William Carlos Williams in the twentieth ). While living in England during the mid-1960's, he was welcomed into the literary circle of the London school of poets. Included were Stephen Spender, Alex Comfort, Dannie Abse, Peter Porter, George MacBeth and Edwin Brock, most of whom he hosted for a series of readings at the Moot Hall in the town of Aldeburgh. Back in the US, he exchanged verses with Joseph Auslander, Allen Ginsburg and Louis Ginzburg. The poems in this volume were composed over a period of fifty years. Many of them have appeared in prestigious medical periodicals such as the American Journal of Psychiatry and the Journal of the American Medical Association.
