These are mostly lyric poems. They call up a childhood spent among Swedish immigrants. They wrestle with memories of love, marriage, hope and loss. They take on spirituality, politics, even retirement. These poems well up out of real life with children, blind students, and injured veterans back from our seemingly endless wars. There is no way to miss the embodied yearning, if not protest, in this poetry. These poems are meant for the ear and should be spoken to be really heard. And if they take you to places you have not been before, they will not leave you stranded there.
