Kirby Sloan, an ex-Houston Police officer turned private investigator, is looking into the disappearance of the parents of Gayle Evans. Her father, Stanley Whitaker, is the creator of the Sentinel Security Systems used by the US military to protect its defense systems and by private industry to protect corporate networks, power grids, sky and air traffic control and other vital infrastructures. Sloan finds himself in the middle of an international conflict between the US and New Germany when this seemingly ordinary case suddenly goes terribly wrong.
