Dewy Spearman is sent by his mentor to New Orleans to teach drama and direct Macbeth as the benning of his professional career, or else; but all productions of Macbeth are cursed. Warned by the dean against having affairs with students, one Lolita vows to have Spearman's head on her pillow. The business manager, exposed as a thief, wants Spearman's head on a sword. The theater's wealthiest patron, enraged by Spearman's removing her pet actor from the lead role, wants Spearman's head on the unemployment line. The murderously jealous consort of his Lady Macbeth, cuckolded by Spearman, wants his head on a pike. So, Dewy Spearman finds himself on stage, in Macbeth's costume, sword in hand, fighting for his reputation, his career, his life, and for his lady's release.
