Richard and Alison Waring fall in love in college where Richard is pursuing a degree that will finally lead him to his goal in life, that of a minister of the gospel of Christ. They marry, and Richard enters the Baptist seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas. Richard's personal devotion and sense of call to the ministry is deep and profound and Alison willingly works as an elementary teacher to support them. Richard develops into a powerful, charismatic preacher while in seminary, recognized by both his peers and his professors as a new and fresh light whose ministry will surely win him prestige and power in the religious world. And so it does. He becomes the minister of the largest Baptist church in Dallas, Texas. And his life changes.
