In Every Day is a Great Day: A Biography of David J. Martin, Sr. the author brings to life the everyday struggles of the main character as he strives to help his family survive the poverty it faced during the decade between the Great Depression and World War II. Through interviews with Mr. Martin and significant people in his life, the author weaves a story that tells how-despite losing his father to an early death-young David earns half the money in his family's budget by the time he is 11 years old. The author also details how Mr. Martin's own ingenuity, work ethic, the faith his mother instilled in him and the skills he acquired while in the U. S. Coast Guard helped prepare him for success as a Cary, NC, developer and as a husband, father to six children and man of God. Perhaps more important the author shines a light on the servant heart of Mr. Martin as he gives to the poor, helps guide his church, and seeks to bring the Gospel to everyone he meets.
