After his cousin is in a traumatic accident, Michael McCabe is thrown into the hospital environment and becomes fascinated by the role of a Clinical Pharmacist in the Intensive Care Unit. He sets his sight on a career as a clinical pharmacist and lands a position in the Medical Intensive Care Unit at the research focused Arbor Regional Medical Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan. In collaboration with the Chief of Critical Care, he participates in a number of research projects involving the study of investigational drugs for pharmaceutical companies. Michael is given the opportunity to lead a study of a unique investigational antiviral agent in patients who are admitted to the Medicine and Pediatric Intensive Care Units with complications from the flu. Dr. Jeanine Dunn, a Medicine-Pediatrics physician resident, joins him on this research enterprise. Neither ever expected that their dedication and close involvement with this research study would ultimately place their lives in jeopardy.
