In the isolated backwoods of northwest Montana's Arrow Valley, Sheriff Big Al Noonan is faced with solving a murder the old fashioned way. Hampered with a small overworked staff, he enlists the help of William Griffin, a retired San Francisco police detective who grew up in the Arrow Valley. In a county larger in area than many states, and without functioning cell phone or radio service, Griff and the deputies rely on assistance from the Forest Service, local quirky residents, a beagle, and the patrons of a back country saloon, The Dirty Grizz.
