Besotted with cheap booze, enveloped in omnipresent clouds of cigarette smoke, they may epitomize political incorrectness but they manifest a unique wit and wisdom. They and their friends, among them Mary Contrary, Flasher Gordon, poet Brendan Dylan, the Perfessor, and Pastor Max, struggle to survive, and yet their microcosm is a reflection of the larger world of mortgages, rent, car payments, taxes, and bureaucratic snarl. Still, survive they do, with humor and the conviction that fulfillment of the impossible dream is only a day away.
