Air Force 2, with the Vice President and Secretary of Defense aboard is hit by ground to air missiles on final approach to Andrews AFB and plunges to the ground killing all aboard. FBI Inspector Ben Douglas and Secret Service agent Ana de la Garza are charged with the investigation, working the case directly for the President They soon establish the VP and party diverted from there trip to a seclude mob owned resort off the Florida coast. Douglas and de la Garza go there undercover and discover it is a sex club catering to the rich with the potential for blackmail and extortion. Investigation points to the Secretary of Defense as the prime target. CEO and major stockholder of a huge defense industry corporation. When he became Secretary his holdings were placed in a blind trust. Now he wishes to step down and resume control of his company. His board of directors, mainly retired flag officers does not want him back. Douglas and de la Garza fid themselves in the murky business of multi-billion dollar contracts, bribed officials and a cabal of military men ruthless in their endeavors to seize control of the corporation. They even have a small private army of former special forces troops who provide contract services in combat zones. Some of these mercenaries provide a domestic security force. Douglas and de la Garza face increasing danger as they slowly over come obstacles to put the case together. Political intrigue and pressure from the White House to solve the case batter them. The trail takes them from Washington to the Florida keys and cross country to Los Angels and into an isolated mountain area of Texas. In his long career DDouglas has never faced a challenge like this.
