The Literacy Tutor's Guide to K-12 Tutoring is a research-based handbook that provides tutors and reading teachers with detailed hands-on strategies, supporting templates and assessment information for use in small group and one-on-one tutoring sessions. This book describes how students learn to read and then provides step-by-step directions for implementing high impact learning strategies. Tutors and teachers will find strategies for increasing reading comprehension, fluency, writing skills, vocabulary development and the early literacy skills related to phonics and phonemic awareness. Tutors and teachers will be provided with a lesson plan template as well as format for preparing a post-tutoring summary report. The lesson structure, strategies and report have been used with hundreds of children in two university-based literacy centers. This format has led to improved literacy development as well as an increased joy of reading and writing.
