PRETTY Pretty, is a young adult story that focuses on teenage intimacy, domestic abuse, low self-esteem, suicide, and bestiality. Pretty, takes place in southern Louisiana and is about a couple of teenage friends who attend or attended school together at some point and become lovers. Brittney is a pretty and popular high school girl and Jeff is a nice, athletic, nerdy guy. Brittney is inexperienced with boys in spite of her popularity and there is an older man (Todd ?promiscuous/college guy) she is interested in. Her inexperience is a turn off to Todd; however, to get the experience she wants to regain Todd?s attention, she experiments with Jeff to learn about her body sexually. Jeff falls in love with her because she?s so pretty although there is another girl (Mackenzie) who has more in common with him. Jeff cannot handle when Brittney betrays him and reacts. All the characters are friends or co-workers in a mostly African American community and are affected by the choices made in the story. I guess it?s the nature of the beast to be attracted to pretty people. We sometimes tend to overlook unacceptable behavior when we are physically attracted to someone. If things do not work out, some tend to let their emotions get the best of them and react in negative ways that could end up criminal and/or fatal.
