Leo Leaper is an introverted 8th-grader whose sole aspiration for his southern Arkansas life is to become a published author, like his eccentric mother Patrice. He is a daydreamer and engages his overly-creative mind to excuse himself from the most common aspects of reality, replacing them with fantastical scenarios and images that help sedate him from the things that cause him the most pain.
