Otherworld. People always say that world is hellish and barren. They say that the dirt is black and the water runs red. All are just stories told by those who have never been there of course. Nobody has gone to Otherworld that wasn't born there, and those that come from the alternate world of demons and chaos aren't usually ones for talking. There are a few sentient ones, but all of them are twisted and ultimately cruel, evil souls. You can't get much out of them. Since time began humans have been at war with that other place. It's not some conspiracy, either. A child knows about this massive conflict. All know that something can come through a portal at any time, at any place, and take everything you hold dear. And somehow we have learned to live with it. We always learn to fight. We have to. There's always something out there trying to kill you, whether it be the animalistic beings that come simply because they are hungry, or the intelligent ones that hide among us, waiting to strike. There are no angels here, at least not the ones that people talk about in the church down the street. There are only soldiers. We call them Angels because figuratively they are. They guard us from these things, but they are humans, people with lives and families just the same as everybody else. Anyone can become an Angel, a soldier, all have their own reasons for joining the cause. I always did wonder, though, what a demon is thinking in that sick little head. Who knows, maybe one day I might find out.
