Tristan DancingStar is dedicated to preserving his tribes' rich traditions and heritage and leading them into even brighter things down the road. His father, the Principal of the local elementary school, has been charged with selecting Tristan's future mate in a very traditional arrangement from those normally undertaken in this day and age. Tristan walks a fine line between contemporary business and caring for the needs of his people. He has a strong moral fiber that will not allow the bending of rules. Emma Kendrick has always lived a vagabond life with her missionary parents. She doesn't have roots or a place to call home until she returns to her mother's birthplace, Eagle Ridge. She loves teaching children and is excited by the opportunity the position at the reservation school promises, except for the interactions with Tristan DancingStar that cause her to turn down the initial offer.
