Publisher Marketing: This nonfiction text is a personal search by the author for an answer to the question posed by the title but inviting you, the reader, to follow along. Since the many versions of the Christian Bible are the most published and read book in human history, he approaches it as a popular comingling of ancient myths and flawed history, but possessing a powerful moral and, in places, fabricated spiritual agenda. Raised a Christian, he has unsuccessfully tried to justify the numerous mystical and fanciful biblical events in light of reason. Possessing a science background, he challenges faith unsupported by fact. He sees numerous parallels between early Judeo/Christian writings, and those fables and other ancient events from Sumeria, Babylon, and Egypt which were present in the area thousands of years earlier, and intimates plagiarism, or at least literary embellishment. The author and some biblical scholars feel that the Book of Genesis is more literary fiction than fact, and offers emerging archeological and geological support for this belief. Although he accepts Jesus as a well-intentioned teacher with an inspirational message who actually died on a cross for preaching that man did not need either the church or the clergy to achieve a relationship with God, he probably was neither divine nor God. Furthermore, he contends that the Christian canon codified at Nicaea in 325 CE, was not divinely inspired as portrayed by theologians, rather it is the product of everyday mortal men, directed by Emperor Constantine, with completely "down to earth" motivations, and compiled at a time in history dominated by the hated Roman Empire. He also introduces the possibility that Earth has been, and still is, an item of interest by more advanced species from other worlds, providing considerable compelling circumstantial evidence to support this thesis.
