They must cobble together an alliance that will stand against the might of the Osmani Grand Council and their Praetorian Guard - the finest fighting force in the Sixteen Worlds. In their search for help, the ursoids discover that there is more to overcome than just the political forces that oppose them. They must also tackle intense racial prejudice and class struggle in this socially stratified culture. While one ursoid looks pretty much like the next to humans, the Osmani are deeply divided along racial lines. The crew risks everything to save House Day Star. If they do not prevail, the Brachensclaws will be stripped of their lands and titles, their house dissolved and face banishment or worse.
