After that unexpected move by Hank all three men fled from the jewelry shop. One was trailing blood from a shoulder/neck wound and he was losing a lot of it. As the three men burst into the book store Paula rushed out from the back room to see what the commotion was. Just as she cleared the door to the storage room the wounded man fell forwards and ended up laying a few feet from the front door. The other two men surrounded her and one put his arm around her neck and held her as a shield. Hank stepped to his right as he entered the store. Bubba followed suit and stepped to the left. "I'll kill her if you don't let us go." "What about your friend here? You just goin ah leave him?" Hank said. "Jojo's dead and that's it for him. I don't want any more trouble so just stand aside and let us go....or she dies!!" "You have 2 choices here." Hanks said. "Let her go and go to jail. Or you both can die. My friend here is going to shoot your buddy there if you do anything threatening. And I am going to shoot you just as I did Jojo. And I will shoot you right... between... the eyes." This made the perp real nervous as he had seen how well Hank could shoot. But he was not going to jail. He figured he had a 50/50 chance of getting out of this by killing the hostage.
