Having failed to bring Edward Bilbi to justice, the detective from Falmouth set about hunting down his most elusive criminal, and this case was something that D. I. Cook needed to bring to a successful conclusion before he could retire from the force after many years of loyal service. Although it flew in the face of everything that his strict professional training had taught him as an experienced detective, this was about to become very personal. It would be these extreme character traits that would serve to undermine D. I. Cook's decision making process at crucial stages of the case as it progressed. Increasingly difficult circumstances would add further complications as they are introduced by a wealthy and dangerously unpredictable lady, Angelina Colarossi and also by Edward's less than honourable lawyer, Anthony West.
