The Long Walk Home Bob Looker
The Long Walk Home
Bob Looker
When the Japanese invade Burma in 1941 there were many British Army families living there. This is a story of the evacuation of these families and is told from the perspective of one 7 year old boy travelling with his mother and many other families from their home in Maymyo, near Mandalay. They travelled by road, train, steamer, Trek over the Naga Mountains, bus and eventually train to the relative safety of Calcutta. This was a 1,000 mile journey. The life of a soldier is fairly well known but little is understood of what the families go through in both peace time and during conflicts. This story is there to balance this understanding.
