Masego's Special Gift is an Historical Fiction that takes place during the Slave Trade with Denmark. It is a story of slavery, African and West Indian folklore, superstition and magic.... By the year 1786, sixteen-year-old Masego is adept in the "ways of the spirit". He holds a place of prominence among his people in an Ashanti village in Africa. However, the jealousy and greed of others make him an easy target for abduction. Ripped away from his loved ones and sold into slavery, Masego uses his inner strength to withstand the brutality of his captors. He learns to survive in a sub-human society in the Danish West Indies, where plantation owners hate him because of the color of his skin. In addition, there is divisiveness among his people. Although evil forces conspire and threaten his belief in a "higher good", Masego's belief in the sanctity of life and a people's right to be free remains unshaken.
