Publisher Marketing: When I was growing up (not that long ago), a strong work ethic was one of the most valuable things a child could acquire. I was taught to do any job to the best of my ability, always be kind, courteous and helpful to my coworkers, and always respect my boss. Each task, no matter how menial, was viewed as an opportunity to learn and a stepping stone to something better. Since becoming a small business owner, however, I have noticed a significant decline in our children's work ethic - in thought, word, and deed. Many of my employees are teenagers, and while I believe they are smart kids with limitless potential, that potential is often hidden behind bad manners, a surly attitude, and a general lack of enthusiasm. This was troubling for many reasons, one of which was the effect on my day-to-day business operations. But what concerned me even more was the damage the lack of strong work ethic is doing to our youth. That's why I wrote this book - not only to create better, more productive employees, but to help our teens grow into responsible adults, headed for successful careers. That said, the simple lessons in this workbook are not only for their present job, they are laying the groundwork for professional, courteous behavior that will serve kids well throughout their careers. Finally, it will help them to be more efficient and compassionate employers one day.
