Publisher Marketing: REFUSAL of PERSONA NON GRATA STATUS (Inside the Heart and Soul of a Convicted Felon: The Struggle to Retain Personhood) I understand the passion, the allure to actively engage policy making as a full-fledged participant, shaping destiny or impacting history. As a Black-American male (Black slave heritage), my people have been historically denied access to the room of global policy makers. Presently, imprisonment has locked me out the room. Daily, I combat an onerous internal debate, "How do I overcome collateral sanctions that a system has instituted to assign me permanent persona non grata status?" Mark Carven Olds, MCO, CNM, CPE - an experienced author, clergyman, convicted felon, entrepreneur, flawed visionary, life coach, servant-leader, social theoretician, and theologian. Unbrokenly, the wretched anguish of incarceration had sought ways to sink the toxic claws of depression into my psyche. The goal presented by this intangible foe had been to release a negative emotional venom that would attack my mental stability. The daily battle (sometimes a skirmish, other times a war) had confronted me with passionate challenges. An elongated isolation phase (separation from family, friends, and society) will attempt to raise a wall of resistance against the inner peace that faith had delivered. In spite of the location, faith had led me to trust God for His perfect peace. I had taken solace in my faith, which did not serve as a crutch due to my imprisonment. If it were not for my faith, the wretched anguish would have possibly gained an in-road into my well-being. When you have been robbed of personal liberty, the reality of an unnatural environment can act as a host for relentless agony. I had chosen not to surrender my character to the emotional and mental pressures that accompany a lengthy prison designation. I had continuously implored my Creator for the courage, the desire, and the strength to redeem the time. By faith I confessed, my youth is renewed like an eagle. I had learned that each millisecond houses a creative thought too precious to escape unexplored. Upon this recognition, the battle had then intensified in each molecular structure of my emotional, physical, and spiritual makeup. No matter the depths of the isolationist attacks, I had to remain vigilant to: 1) place a guard on my lips, 2) bridle my tongue, and 3) turn my ears away from poisonous speech. In an intense concentration of characters, feelings, and personalities, I also had to retain a spiritual sensitivity to: 1) principalities, 2) powers of darkness, and 3) wickedness in high places. My spiritual sensitivity kept me alert to the always covert counter-productive activities. Under the pressure of adversity, it was my faith that revealed any dismay intended to distort my ability to function. Incarceration had prevented my interface capacity with people of like faith as well as society's decision-makers. This made me especially susceptible to the surfacing of subtle attacks of anger and frustration. It was only God's peace that continually constrained my spirit and revealed the would-be agony as an attempt to cause me emotional and/or spiritual discomfort. If I had fainted in the days of adversity, I would had acknowledged that my strength was at a minimal. Through faith, I had begun the transformation to become A Flawed Visionary, who would overwhelmingly conquer any situation - present or future. Ostracized from people of faith and key decision-makers, I had to rapidly arrive at a place whereby I relied upon the Lord's revelation knowledge. As a resident in a penal colony, God's peace was a luxury that I could not afford to be without for even a moment.
