God...Can I Sit On Your Lap
Helen Vanscyoc
It is 1976. The father stares down at the little baby boy with fuzzy hair, red cheeks and a reflection of himself looking back at him. He's apprehensive of the responsibility of rearing this little fellow. But he didn't have a decision in the matter...someone took that responsibility away. It is now 2014, and once again, that father stares once again at his son, only this time he's lying in a hospital bed fighting for his life. He can't hold him; he can't carry on a conversation with him; he can't tell him how much he loves him. His hospital bed has turned him over on his stomach and he's hooked up to so many wires necessary to sustain his life. Jim's only hope is that in his coma, his son can hear those words that his dad always said to him, "I love you, Son, more than you know." His story is not uncommon to many fathers today but through this story, it is Jim's desire that someone will be encouraged by the story he shares from his heart.
