His father was a drunkard, meaning his mother had to struggle just to properly provide for her young son. So Scruffy learned how to navigate life-how to survive even when others believed he never would. His natural leadership ability attracted others to him, and the gang he assembled had many mischievous adventures until the day came when he discovered that others recognized what he could truly give. Through their gentle encouragement, the noble life that had always been within him began to blossom, leading him to see what it is that really matters in life. His life became a model for others even as he continued to doubt his own value or ability to offer anything worthwhile to anyone. The greatest surprise came when he discovered for himself the inherent value he had as a person and the priceless gifts he could give to others. Contributor Bio:  Lannon, Richard Richard lives in Alaska, where he's now retired and a member of 49 Writers. During his 47-year career he taught, worked for a printing company, and managed a furniture store. He's done a variety of writing that includes professional articles and a stage script, but this is his first novel. He also enjoys hiking, photography, singing, his friends, great movies, and catching the occasional salmon. But his greatest love is traveling the world. He's been to or lived in all but eight of the United States. He lived a year in Japan and nearly eight years in Germany. He's traveled the length and breadth of Europe from Stonehenge to the Acropolis and from Copenhagen to Athens. He's seen Mt. Fuji, the Rocky Mountains, and the Alps. He's sailed both of the great oceans. Someday he hopes to cross the equator and visit South America or New Zealand.
