WHY ARE WE SO AFRAID TO SPEAK OUR MINDS WHEN POLITICS BECOMES THE TOPIC OF CONVERSATION? WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO KNOW HOW A FRIEND VOTED IN THE LAST ELECTION? IN AMERICA TODAY, THE PREVAILING FEELING IS, "I DON'T WANT TO BE YOUR FRIEND IF YOU DON'T LIKE MY CANDIDATE OR MY POLITICAL PARTY." NOW THAT THE ELECTION CYCLE IS IN FULL SWING, INTRA-PARTY FIGHTING IS PREVALENT WITH THOSE WHO ARE NOT VOTING FOR "MY" CANDIDATE. THIS CAN'T CONTINUE . . . The courageous interviewees in this book relate the negative and sometimes overbearing reactions when they have dared to voice their political opinions. Friendships have been terminated, family relationships have become fragile, and people now associate with only those who are harmonious politically. The one common solution has been to avoid discussions of matters of state, but this leads to only more polarization. WHAT CAN WE LEARN FROM THESE INTERVIEWS? We are a nation sorely in need of unification--from the grass roots to those in our highest offices. These testimonies illustrate this need. The respondents come from all parts of the country and represent a cross-section of political affiliations, ages, races and religions. Hopefully, reading what each citizen has to say will help us heal the political divide in America. The author bases her conclusions on these intimate thoughts; chief among them is that no one is happy with this new norm in America!
