Hector Riley, old, crippled, and a hermit, lives in a crooked little house near Ironton, Ohio. He never leaves his house and seems completely harmless, but someone wants to kill him.

Sam Martin has been hired by this mysterious someone to kill Hector as soon as he leaves his shack on the hillside. He is forbidden to kill Hector within a mile of the house, but Hector never leaves.

Sam tries to lure him away, even though he has reservations about his new profession as hit-man. If Sam doesn't please his elusive "Boss", Boss has threatened to send another hit-man after both Sam and Hector. Trapped, Sam believes he has no option but to carry out his contract.

With this novel, Saundra Crum Akers completes book twenty in her series of books set in small towns of south and central Ohio. She lives in Hilliard, Ohio now, but grew up in southern Ohio, living in some of the areas where her books have been set.
