Publisher Marketing: In the Spanish-speaking world, storytelling, folklore, legends and myths always teach a lesson. These lessons revolve around life skills, acquiring tolerance, and understanding the difference between right and wrong. Children have learned for generations that making correct decisions will affect their entire lives. They also know the environment around them can help or hurt, so they must be aware of any danger. The most famous story known throughout the world in different variations is the story of la Llorona, a crying ghost who mysteriously appears. This ghost is mostly seen near waterways, but can also be seen in other places. The base of the story is that if a child is playing in a ditch or river, la Llorona might appear, take the child with her, and the boy or girl will never be seen again. The moral is, do not play in ditches or rivers, because a sudden rise in the flow of water can hurt you. Rosalia de Aragon brings this story to life in her Spanish/English bilingual book for children, which is part of the Cuentame un Cuento series from Event Horizon Press. This delightful and captivating story tells of three children who have a narrow escape and learn the true meaning of being careful, looking out for others, and following the right paths in life. Wonderful illustrations created by high school student Rosalinda Pacheco beautifully enhance this book children and adults will find a joyful pleasure to read." Contributor Bio:  Cowles, Joseph Robert Distinguished and celebrated New Mexico historian Ray John de Aragon has a family connection to Billy the Kid going back several generations. His great grandmother, Dona Catalina Mondragon de Valdez, was a noted Curandera (Medicine Woman) who treated Billy the Kid in Anton Chico, New Mexico. She was also present in Las Vegas, New Mexico after Sheriff Pat Garrett captured the Kid at Stinking Springs and took him to the San Miguel County jail on December 26, 1880. She was gathered along with other onlookers as Billy was taken by wagon on Bridge Street to the jail. While Billy the Kid was held in the jail on Valencia Street, Dona Catalina, who lived three blocks away on North Pacific Street (now Hot Springs Boulevard), took baked goods to the friend she had treated and saved. This was the family lore Ray John heard as a young boy. Maximo de Aragon, the author's father who was born in 1903, personally knew some of Billy's associates and participants in the famous Lincoln County War. He added to a collection of Kid-connected photos he inherited from his grandmother. Ray John de Aragon has also contributed to this group of mementos, which is now recognized as a leading historical collection of Billy the Kid related artifacts. His well known collection of memorabilia is featured in a special Billy the Kid exhibit at the Los Lunas Museum of Heritage and Arts, and at the Special Collections Library of the City of Albuquerque and Bernalillo County. De Aragon wrote a photo documentary book on Lincoln, New Mexico, published by Arcadia in its Images of America series. He also wrote the foreword to the reprint of The Real Billy the Kid by former New Mexico Territorial Governor Miguel Antonio Otero along with historian Marc Simmons who wrote the preface to the new edition.
