Publisher Marketing: The first edition of Understanding Immigration had a subtitle of A Common Sense Approach. This second edition has a new subtitle: A Guide for Non-Profits, Recognized Organizations, and Accredited Representatives. The notion of "Common Sense" is present in this new edition and, even though the first edition was published only five months ago, a great deal has changed in terms of U. S. Immigration. Second, Patrick Mazor redirected the work toward an area that has a much greater need for quality information than immigration attorneys and paralegals. There are many social services non-profit agencies that work with people who are at risk and who have immigration challenges. These include victims of human trafficking, victims or domestic violence, and victims of crime. Additionally, these same agencies may work with people who are refugees or eligible for asylum. Yet, they may not be aware that there is a way by which their foreign national clients can be helped. This second edition covers those issues completely. The most important change in terms of working with the U. S. Citizenship and Immigration Services can be found in the chapter entitled, "The New Attestations - Major Responsibilities." There is no exaggeration in the words, "Everything has changed." It has. Readers who focus on that chapter are encouraged to understand that the Department of Homeland Security is very serious in what it is saying and what it is requiring of Accredited Representatives, attorneys, and paralegals. Anyone who thinks otherwise is mistaken. Understanding Immigration contains a multitude of common sense practice tips, insights into the thinking of the government, a practical approach to working an immigration file start to finish, and helpful hints for non-profit agencies looking to do more to help others. This book is a "must have" for any Recognized Organization as a helpful reference tool and much much more.
