When Judy realises that she is losing her memory, she decides she must write something down. She has kept a terrible secret for many years and she does not want it to die with her. However, when Laura, her daughter, finds this account, it is only the beginning of the story. It tells how Judy's friend Linda went missing more than forty years earlier, but it ends abruptly. Laura decides to try to solve the mystery of Linda's disappearance with the help of her younger sister. The story unravels against the backdrop of Judy's deterioration and Laura's attempts to manage the impact on her family. However, Laura finds she is keeping as many secrets as she uncovers. The mystery of what happened to Linda is solved at last, but how will Laura deal with the implications, now that she knows the truth? Are some secrets better left untold?
