Black Years Ten Cullen Vane

Blinded at the hand of her brother, nine-year-old Lucy Phildius takes to a giant rock in her front yard and for a decade she spends nearly every waking hour upon it. They are her Black Years Ten. As Lucy tries to make sense of her blindness and the chaotic world about her, she is a lonely spectacle on the rock. People come to look at her, she is stared at as if on display and is talked about, but most often she sits in a desolate and contemplative vigil. It takes her ten years to realize that even amidst loss, despair and loneliness there is hope, optimism and the understanding that the world is more good than bad.
