It's the first week of middle school, and a stupid runny nose crushes all Matthew's hope for ever fitting in. The lacrosse jocks think it's their job to make his life miserable. Then his parents take off and the nanny hired to look after him disappears. Way too scared to stay home alone, he's got to find a place to spend the night before it gets dark . . . but where? And in a few weeks, when his parents get back . . . there's that horrible academic competition that's been won by generations of Matthew's family. His father is forcing him to compete. But Matthew isn't motivated . . . until he hits the gym. Then things get interesting.
