After hitting rock bottom, Thais De Bois is struggling to put her life back in order. During this time, she has to fulfill a corvee of forced labour for the ruling nobility of the Belle Province. Instead of the usual manual or clerical labour, the St. Andre family tasks her with gathering a sample of the fabled Blue Arctic roses, this being the only stipulation for winning the hand of Marc-Jose, the heir of the St. Andre chevaliers. Thais has no choice in the matter, since her future success is dependent on their goodwill. Marc-Jose has no choice but to accept this if he wants to be free from the constraints of his class.
