A body is washed up on a Scottish beach in the East Neuk of Fife. Alan Green recognises it as the head of a local electronics company where he once worked. Detective Sergeant Bill Hamming enjoys his work and has a happy home life - in fact he sometimes wonders if he is cut out to be a detective at all. Something about this death nags at his mind. Could it be more than a routine tragic accident? If so, he will have to find evidence for his report before his boss loses patience.
