"A Penguin Fell from the Sky: Into a Hot World" centers around a curious penguin named Squishy. Our hero, born in the North Pole, is adventurous. As soon as he's old enough his independent nature leads him away from his colony into the icy wilderness where he discovers an abandoned igloo and decides to move in. One day, while searching for a better fishing hole, he cites a nifty place to nap - a strange object he's never encountered (a private airplane). The object takes off while Squishy is asleep. It malfunctions and the pilot bales out. The plane explodes propelling Squishy high into the atmosphere, very close to the sun, and then down, where he lands in a strange town populated with equally strange human citizens. It's a fine community, but extremely hot. The natives speak to Squishy without sound, for him to communicate with them, they must teach Squishy the tricky art of their language and then invent a means for his survival in their atmosphere. Later, the townsfolk band together to determine his species, how he entered their realm, and then, with Squishy help, engineer a plan for his return home. It isn't an easy task to turn his life right-side up, Squishy must learn to cooperate with those unlike himself, to acquire a positive attitude, develop patience and master the art of creativity.
