In the near future, Dr. Jared Stevens and a small group of graduate students have struggled for three long years to develop a potentially life-altering technology. What started as a simple project to create a totally new form of virtual reality, has evolved into something with far more possibilities than he ever imagined possible. The prototype quantum scanner his team developed, has given him the power to capture the very essence of a persons consciousness... and to create-or destroy- an entire new universe, nestled within the very fabric of our own. Dr Stevens feels this ultimate power of creation should be carefully explored, but fears others might be threatened if they knew the implications that this new technology presented. After all, he was contemplating messing around with the very foundations of reality. He is confident his project is safe, but there are powerful people who would stop him if they knew the possible consequences. To assure himself that doesn't happen, he begins a secret program to avoid oversight from the short sighted bureaucrats that he feels would surely seek to control this entire new branch of science. There is just one small problem. On the eve of what should have been the greatest moment of his life, Dr. Stevens finds himself inconveniently dead. Meanwhile, a small group of virtual gamers has been quietly being groomed to fill the role of World-builders in Dr. Stevens's secret project. Unknown to them, the simulation they have all been playing has been specifically designed to filter out and select for people with the right balance of morality and creativity to build an entirely new world. When the opportunity is presented to this elite group of gamers by the A. I known as Destiny, they all jump at the chance to be the first to enter the virtual world within the core of the quantum computer. They are rapidly swept into a world so realistic, it is indistinguishable from the reality they all know. Each is given the powers of basic elemental energies to master and the entire group is tasked with the Godlike creation of a new world and reality. But, they soon learn these newfound powers were not given without cost, when they find themselves trapped within the very framework of the universe they have yet to create.
