Tomboy

Unborn, I'd not even set foot on earth, yet I was already embarrassed in the womb to be known as me. I wish there was a way to change my genitals at conception. Everything about being a girl was gross. I started my period at age 11, wearing frilly dresses, & pigtails, compliments of mom. I hated when I began developing breast to protruding hips. I'd remembered hearing old folks saying "She's filling out." I even hated my name---Clarice Mulligan. When the teacher did roll call---I scoot deep in my seat behind my science book until two or three more names were called to make my classmates forget mine existed. Uncomfortable, I was the awkward one. I was a tomboy stuck inside a female body. I felt like my parent's punished me because I didn't fit their "Ideal child" description. In High School, prom was a big event! I went, only thing is who I escorted was unacceptable to all of society and the rejection molded me into the bitter tomboy I'd become. By Sherrie D.
