Sammy Rambles is keen to return to the Dragamas School for Dragon Charming for his second year with his friends Dixie Deane and Darius Murphy. There are new lessons, new teachers and new skills to be learnt. On the school trip to the Land of the Pharaohs, Sammy learns his parents once knew about dragons but cannot see them any more. He finds out about the Stone Cross and discovers the enemy, known only as the Shape is trying to rebuild it. When the fifth years' dragons are poisoned, Sammy has no choice but to find out more about the Shape and uncover why the Stone Cross is so important.
