Helen and Paris in War's Arms
Costas Komborozos
The kiss comes at long last, a shaft of splintered light searing itself between two faces, two opposite forces. It is, and always has been, its own private eclipse, a moment when one love overshadows another. Then an arc of light appears on the dark edge of the receding moon, and the kiss becomes a separation between two pair of lips. The love that was concealed is now free to embrace the light. And then, some time later, the love that concealed the other love is now the one being concealed. A spectacle of light shimmers as though it were the sea, and the cycle of their love produces its own secret alignment, wave after wave sweeping the eternal shore. But this fleeting, dreamlike occurrence is now only a distant memory. Their lips eventually part, breaking from a trance-like devotion to mutual love. And then there are only the bright waves breaking on the shore.
