Do animal lives matter less than human lives? Day for day, year for year, do wild animals live less eventful or less important lives than human beings? Anyone who has spent an hour trying to kill a fly knows that he values his life just as highly as any human - and is at least as alert and aware of his self-interest. One crude measure of a human life is the obituary. It gives a summary of an individual's experiences, family connections, accomplishments, characteristics, and interests.
