Although he now admits to not remembering saying it, noted columnist Bill Press once commented, "Things are not as bad as they seem. They are worse." In a collection of humorous essays, the author proves this true. With the eyes and bad temperament of a curmudgeon, he gripes about things from the latest fad of therapeutic adult coloring books to the shrinking space aboard airplanes, where passengers have to "grease up their hips to squeeze through an aisle the width of a capillary." Using an irreverent but amusing style, the author takes on everything that irritates him to no end. Financial institutions, tattoos, drug companies, and slobbering pets all draw his critical fire. Commiserate or take pleasure in his frustration when dealing with backyard pests or his anxious thoughts of having to share the road with people who "lack the proper ratio of gray matter to Chevy Silverado mass." While acknowledging that this book may tick a lot of people off, it is the author's hope that it does so with a smile...or a smirk, but honestly admits he'll take whatever he can get.
