Moca West is a full-blooded Native American Indian who has great inner peace and wisdom despite her challenges in life. After her husband goes missing while on a classified assignment, Moca attempts to keep things normal on their Kansas farm for her three children, Jon, Katie, and Kit. But when she has another one of her foretelling dreams, she has no idea that half a world away, events are occurring that will soon affect not only her, but also the lives of her children.

After word comes that a distant uncle has left the family a great sailboat and it is on its way from the South Pacific trading routes to Galveston, Texas, the Wests decide to leave Kansas and travel to the Gulf Coast to receive Tradewind. At the helm is Captain Bellwether, a tall bearded man who welcomes them aboard and, day later, out into the sea to begin an adventure that soon leads Jon to find an old map that may hold the clues to unravel a centuries-old mystery.
