Despite her fear of flying, physician and breast cancer researcher, Dr. Helen Brooks travels to Scotland to be godmother to her friend Sarah's baby girl. While the baptism is the primary reason for Helen's trip, she also hopes to persuade Sarah to resume her doctoral studies. Close friends since the age of three, Helen and Sarah have not seen each other much in the past eight years since Sarah quit her graduate program to marry and return with her husband to his home near Aberdeen, Scotland. A vivid nightmare unsettles Helen on her first night in Scotland. A week later, while on a tour of local castles, Helen has an alarming encounter with one of Scotland's storied ghosts. In the process of determining why she feels compelled to help this restless spirit, Helen also finds love and a sense of belonging.
